Grandchildren Friendly Christmas Crafts

Gather your grandkids or friends for some Christmas decorating fun.

With Christmas around the corner, it’s a wonderful time to get crafty. These projects are a great way to add festive cheer to your home and a lovely way to spend time together.

1. Make Pinecone Christmas Trees

Pinecones are an easy way to make charming miniature Christmas trees. Start by painting the pinecones green. Once they are dry, dab glue to attach tiny pom-poms or beads as Christmas decorations. You could even top them off with a tiny star glued to the top. They look great as a table centrepiece or you could scatter them along a shelf to add a festive touch to your home.

2. Create Salt Dough Ornaments

Salt dough is a simple way to make custom ornaments. You mix together 1 cup of flour, 1/2 cup of salt, and about 1/2 cup of water to form a dough. Roll it out and cut out shapes with a knife or cookie cutters. You could create stars, circle for Christmas baubles, bells or Christmas tree shapes…whatever you like! Use a straw to make a hole for hanging, then bake at a low temperature (about 200°F) until hard. After they cool, paint the ornaments and finish with a layer of clear varnish to keep them durable for years to come.

3. Everyone Loves Paper Snowflakes

This classic Christmas craft project never goes out of style. It’s mess-free too – all you need is white paper, scissors, and a little creativity. You simply fold a square piece of paper into a triangle and then make random cuts. Unfold the paper to reveal your unique snowflake design. You can tape these snowflakes to windows or string them into garlands for a winter wonderland effect.

4. Personalise Your Own Christmas Stockings

This is one the grandkids will really love. Purchase plain stockings from a craft shop or Spotlight and then set up a decorating station. The decorating station can have whatever you can find –  fabric paint, glitter glue, buttons and felt to cut out into shapes. You and your grandkids can then personalise your stockings and write your name. They will become cherished keepsakes for years to come.

We hope you’ve found something here that you would like to make. Put aside an afternoon or a morning to get crafty and create some new memories. You’ll not only feel more festive but also get a lovely sense of accomplishment. It’s a great way to start enjoying the festive season together.
