Congratulations to an outstanding community member of Treeview Estates Retirement Village who was awarded an Order of Australia (OAM).
This Australia Day (2019) was a very special one for Merle Thompson, as she was recognised for her life long service to the community through a range of organisations.
Merle’s achievements are even more remarkable given her own struggles with childhood Polio. An inspiring testament to the adage that despite what life throws at you, serving others can help you rise above your circumstances.
Merle attributes much of her motivation to coming from a family who were always committed to community support and actively leading by example.
A few of Merle’s achievements include;
Honorary Secretary, Business Manager and Registrar for the Australian Federation of Graduate Women. An association dedicated to the progress of women’s education globally. Merle represents Australia as an international delegate.
Member of the Steering committee for Polio NSW, Merle has held positions as Secretary, Vice President and is a Life Member. Polio NSW aims to provide best-practice services for polio survivors.
Board Member, Treasurer, Co-editor and Life Member of the Australian Plants Society. An Association of members with a passion for learning about, growing and conserving Australian native plants and their habitats.
It is inspiring to have a member of our Treeview Community with such a positive history of giving back to the community.
Well done Merle!
